Johan grew up in Växjö, a town in the southern region of Sweden, but moved to Stockholm - the capital - at 19. He proceeded to study philosophy, mathematics, economics and political science at Stockholm University with a small sejour in Paris whilst writing his bachelor thesis in philosophy.
He joined the Stockholm Association of Foreign Affairs in 2009 to work on their programme commitee, also joined the Swedish Liberal Party that year. He began working in the IT security detail at the Swedish Broadcasting Cooperation in September, 2011. He joined the Swedish Association of International Affairs as secretary of the Board in October, 2011. He then joined the Board of the Stockholm Östermalm division of the Swedish Liberal Party as Head of Communications in February 2012.
